On October 10, 2026 (local time), coinciding with Naruto Uzumaki’s birthday, New York Comic Con 2026 hosted the special panel “NARUTO: What’s Next?” at the Empire Stage of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The sold-out event (approximately 3,000 attendees) featured Japanese voice actors Junko Takeuchi (voice of Naruto) and Noriaki Sugiyama (voice of Sasuke), along with Yoshihiro Tominaga, executive producer of Pierrot Films (the studio behind the franchise’s animation). The panel was livestreamed worldwide and delivered a series of major announcements for the future of the series created by Masashi Kishimoto.
New Manga by Masashi Kishimoto: Naruto Shadow Rising
The biggest surprise of the panel was the announcement of a brand-new Naruto manga written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto himself. The teaser showed the stone faces of the six previous Hokage overlooking the Hidden Leaf Village, with the seventh face still under construction, followed by the confirmation: “A new Naruto manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto.”
Titled Naruto Shadow Rising, the story is set in the period between the end of the original series and the beginning of Boruto. Further details will be revealed at Jump Festa 2027 (December 19–20, 2026).
Crossover Anime NARUTO x NINKŪ
A completely new four-episode anime was announced: NARUTO x NINKŪ. This is a crossover between Naruto and Ninkū, the series that deeply inspired Kishimoto.
The project is supervised by both creators (Kishimoto and Koji Kiriyama). Direction is handled by Noriyuki Abe (who previously worked on Ninkū and Boruto), with Tetsuya Nishio serving as character designer and chief animation director. Production is by Studio Pierrot.
Official synopsis: Team 7 members Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are given a mission by Kakashi. Since he cannot join them, Naruto is appointed acting leader. Fully motivated, the team sets out—but along the way they become lost in another world, where they encounter a boy with a frog-like face named Fūsuke. What awaits them in this strange new world?
The teaser trailer and key visual for the crossover made their world premiere during the panel.
PROJECT RASENGAN
The panel also unveiled PROJECT RASENGAN, a large-scale global initiative that charts the mid- to long-term future of Naruto and Boruto across manga, anime, card games, video games, events, and more, with projects planned through 2029. Additional updates will be revealed at Jump Festa 2027.
NARUTO CARD GAME
The NARUTO CARD GAME will receive a simultaneous worldwide release in June 2027. Trailers, new card illustrations, and the initial product lineup were revealed (three starter decks featuring Naruto, Sasuke, and Gaara as leaders, plus the first booster set “Enter: Naruto Uzumaki!”). Demo tutorial events begin in early 2027, and a major campaign will distribute 1 million demo decks worldwide.
Other Announcements
- The Naruto mobile game (already popular in China since 2016) is coming to the rest of the world. More details will be announced soon.
- A message from director Destin Daniel Cretton regarding the live-action Naruto film was also shared.
The panel closed with a birthday celebration for Naruto, as fans put on commemorative visors and performed a collective “Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu.”
These announcements mark the beginning of a new chapter for the franchise, with Kishimoto returning to draw a Naruto manga himself and the series expanding across multiple media. Fans now eagerly await Jump Festa 2027 for further updates.
